I’ve had a few enquiries recently about the comic, asking when the story will return and why I’m posting pin-up art every week.  So, I’m going to make a post here to let you know where things are at and when you can expect the story to return.

But let me begin by putting things into the context of my daily life.

When Girls in Space began in January 2010, there was just me and my wife living it up in our home in Fife, Scotland.  I had lots of time on my hands.  In fact, I recently found a comment  I had posted in reply to reader on the site in December 2010 where I described what my process was.  Basically, it involved doing Photoshop work while I ate breakfast and drawing, etc in the evenings after work.

However in May 2011 when I became a Dad everything changed.  I mean, everything.  I had no appreciation of just what being a father involved.  My breakfast routine no longer allowed for Photoshop time, as I get up and feed the wee one instead.  My evening routine now involves giving him his dinner, getting him ready for bed and then once I have left him, getting my own dinner made and eaten.  No longer do I have hours upon hours of free time in the evening to work on the comic.  Weekends are spent on family activities.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being a Dad.  It’s just that it doesn’t get my comic drawn!

On top of the above, there’s the fact that Girls in Space is not my only project.  I also participate in a programme with Toys R Us in which I draw comic toy reviews in return for free toys for my son.  It’s a fun programme, but absorbs my entire comic-drawing availability whenever the programme is running.  I am just about to (in the next few weeks) embark on another  run of toy reviews, taking us up to Christmas.

I should point out that the Alphabet Girl images currently being displayed were all drawn last year when I had a little time between toy comics.  I had originally planned on making them available as a ‘dollar download’ but when I realised I wasn’t going to be able to do Girls in Space for a while I felt it would at least allow me to post some content until I was in a position to get the story running again.

Anyway, the question was: When will the story start again?

On Monday 7 January 2013, Girls in Space will return for another eight-month-long weekly adventure.  The story is completely scripted and I have even started to draw some of the pages already.  This next story is one that I am very excited about sharing and ties up an end you may not even have realised is loose yet.  I’ll say no more about it at this stage.

I am very grateful to you all for reading my comic and I’m genuinely touched that so many of you care enough to want to see where it is going next. I will try to make it worth the wait.

It is coming back.
