A few weeks ago Tiffany and I visited our local library. While Tiffany looked around, I used the library computer to find other books I would like to read, not in stock at that time. I placed a couple of books on my reservation list and then, curiosity got the better of me. I wondered if they had a copy of my own book, Silly Beggar.
I’d love t
o tell you that I thought better of it, but no, I didn’t. I typed it in and, to my delight, they had one copy but it was out on loan. It was exciting to think that somebody out there was reading it and I wondered how many other people had borrowed it. So, I did the unthinkable… I placed it on my own reservation list so that I could get it and count the date stamps on the front.
Yes, I should get out more.
So I got a call through the week from the library advising that it was back in stock and I went in to collect it on Saturday. The assistant remarked that it was quite a coincidence that this book was written by a James Spence and that my library card showed I too was a James Spence. I agreed that it was very coincidental and hoped she didn’t notice the resemblance of the character on the cover to myself.
My first thought upon seeing the library copy was that it was in very good condition, suggesting that it hadn’t been lent out very often. Indeed, when I opened it I saw that it had only been lent out twice before. However, the assistant did comment that the previous borrower had had it for a long time. Yes, let’s say that that is the reason.
So, here I am now with the library copy of my own book. I can’t help but feel I should put something in it to somehow reward to the next person who borrows it. Perhaps I could put in a wee note to say thanks for borrowing it but suggest that they really should go out and buy a copy! Maybe I should put a note that says “If you liked this, why not read Girls in Space?” or maybe I should draw a moustache on the pictures of myself. All suggestions welcome!
Anyway… enjoy today’s Girls in Space. Come back on Thursday for Red’s first change of clothes!

As far as I know it didn’t get an American release, but I have seen it on the likes of Amazon, etc. Mind you, I did hear about someone in Japan getting a copy, so you never know!
I’m still playing lottery every week… still not rich though
