Push The Button (Page 06)

The biggest problem with updating just twice a week, is that if I want to dedicate a few pages to Faye showing Red around the Sanctuary and Fergus introducing Zoe to life on Earth, it ends up taking several weeks to unfold.  As a result, the actual story part of Push the Button doesn’t really kick off for a while yet.  However, on the plus side, although these pages are light on story they do start to explore the relationships between our characters.  Hopefully that will be some consolation on the long story drought of May 2010!

All water is recycled girlie… some just takes longer :)

    • Spencey

That’s why I only drink water passed by an expert. Wait, that came out wrong! :/

  2. Peca

Pace is fine, no need to rush things. I like the comic very much, please don’t stop. :)

    • Spencey

Thanks Peca. When I write the script I don’t tend to worry about the pace. It’s only as I watch the pages unfold week by week that I start to wonder if readers will be sitting in front of their screens yelling, “Get on with it, man!”

Glad you are enjoying the comic. Thanks for commenting :D

A story drought is nothing, I had a comic drought in May. Be look at is a building a foundation for the characters to organically grow. That happened to me, I did a small gag to start a few comics exploring my character, next thing you know, my comic started a storyline in the beginning of Dec that I didn’t even plan for, just crept up. Keep up the pace cause I want to know these characters a little better. Sorry for the long comment.

    • Spencey

Thanks Roland. The long comment is much appreciated :D

I guess it’s a matter of balance, and as long as I bring the story in again soon, I should be okay. I just don’t want to end up with a comic that feels like it isn’t going anywhere. As it happens, I have the next 10 pages completed and waiting to be posted, so I can confidently say there are big story developments coming, I just wanted to let readers know it may take a week or two!

    Duck and cover?

  5. Inky

I know that feeling, and I also know how it backfires to skip important facts to make a faster paced comic. Don’t rush it.

I like your comic and art quite a bit. But I think it is odd that the girls swap places in the last panel.

    • Spencey

Thanks for the comment Inky. My first comic Dr Sheep and the Aardvark got the balance between story and characters all wrong. I had planned on making the story run over two years, but a year into it another project took over and I ended up cramming the last year into six months. As a result the first half was quite slow and then it hurtled along at breakneck pace towards the end. My plan with Girls in Space is to blanace things out as much as possible, and my hope is that the individual stories will help things move along, but force me not to cram too many big plot points into any single story.

You’re right about that last panel, now that I look at it. To be honest I hadn’t spotted that. Wish I’d flipped panels two and three now. I’ll look out for that in future.

      • Roland

true about it looking odd on the last panel. For the most part, in comics, you try having the person who is speaking first on the left side of the panel. Sometimes it is hard to gradually “turn the camera” around in the given panels.

        • Spencey

Well said that man! Actually I suppose it could be the ‘camera’ that moved rather than the girls. Yes, let’s say that’s what happened!
