The Prototype (Page 22)

Alice in Cupcake WonderlandFriday already?  When did that happen?  Ah yes, around midnight.  I tried a few new things with today’s page: I created a garage background (rather than having the characters standing around in front of mostly blank walls, I played with an overlapping final panel and I spent some time on Zoe’s character design (she’s the one in pink), making her hair fuller and curlier and her nose less hooked.  This is how I intend to draw her from now on, so I hope you like it!

My brother-in-law Lindsay turned 40 this week, and as he is a fan of Alice in Wonderland, Tiffany made him these ‘Alice in Wonderland’ inspired cupcakes (I helped by making Alice herself and the white rabbit).

Eat Me!The cakes were delicious vanilla cupcakes topped with American-style vanilla buttercream and hand-made fondant decorations (the toadstools were created with meringue and the Cheshire Cat’s smile was made out of chocolate).

The ‘Drink Me’ cupcake was filled with a runny caramel & dark chocolate ganache to give it a liquid effect once cut open.  The cupcakes were a big hit at the party! Everyone thought they were absolutely fabulous! Nice one Tiff.

Now that it has passed, I can wish Linds a very happy unbirthday.

Cupcakes fit for any Mad Hatter's Tea Party

I love the absolute glee in that last panel :D

Thanks Gary – much appreciated. I have the exact same expression when somebody mentions beer!

So which one of you was lucky enough to eat Alice?!? *snort*

Those are really fun looking, dunno if I could eat them and ruin them! … who we kiddin, I’d wreck them with my insatiable addiction to refined sugar!

    • Spencey

Haha! I ate the toadstool one. Partly because I liked how it looked, but mostly because I love meringue!

  3. Andy Bailey

haha, she’s looks well happy in the last frame!

I wish I could get that level of emotion in my pictures, I will have to keep practicing…

  4. Spencey

Thanks very much! My previous webcomics had character designs that didn’t really convey emotions so I’m having a lot of fun experimenting now that I have the chance. :)

  5. Andy Bailey

you must be pleased with how these are coming out then, the more I look at the individual characters, the more I’m impressed. Confusion, surprise, pondering and glee all in one post!

  6. alecho

    I wanna get an upgrade too… :(
